Lines on scanned documents

Cleaning the scanner glass properly will eliminate lines on scans 99% of the time. Depending on what is on the scanner glass, it may take multiple cleanings to resolve.

1. To clean the glass strips and rollers of the scanner, you'll need the following:

- two soft link-free cloths
- isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
- water

2. Turn off the machine and unplug it from the power outlet.

3. Open the Top Cover (1) and the Front Cover (2).

4. Clean the two glass scanner strips (1) and (2) with a soft link-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol:

- Wipe using a back-and-forth motion to remove any residue on the glass.

- Run your fingertip over the glass to feel for debris or dirt and concentrate on cleaning that area.

- Use a flashlight if you have trouble seeing the glass surface.

Several cleanings may be required to remove the debris that is causing the lines. If the debris is particularly stuck, scrubbing may be necessary to completely remove it.

5. Pinch the Pick-Up Roller Cover (1) and then pull the cover up and remove it.

6. Slide the Pick-Up Roller (1) to the right edge.

7. Pinch and pull the Pick-Up Roller out of the machine.

8. Using a different soft lint-free cloth moistened with water , clean the Pick-Up roller to remove any debris or substance.

Water must be used in this step. Using isopropyl alcohol will dry out the rollers and cause damage.

9. Dry off the Pick-Up Roller.

10. Place the Pick-Up Roller back into the machine.

Confirm the left and right sides of the Pick-Up Roller before attaching it.

11. Slide the Pick-Up Roller (1) to the left edge while turning it.

12. Close the Pick-Up Roller Cover.

13. Close the Front Cover and the Top Cover.

14. Plug the machine back into the power outlet and turn it on.

15. Perform a test scan.

How to scan with iPrint&Scan

a. Open iPrint&Scan .

b. Load a document on the scanner.

T o test scan both sides of the document, from the 2-sided dropdown choose On and a binding method.

d. Click Scan and follow the prompts to complete the scan.

- If the lines no longer appear, then the issue is resolved.

- If the lines still appear, r epeat steps 2 through 4 to clean the scanner glass again.

- Repeat the cleaning up to five (5) times if lines continue to appear after testing.

- If after five (5) cleanings, the lines still appear, go to step 16.

16. Do the lines appear on one-sided or "side two" of two-sided scanned documents?

- If one-sided scans or "side one" of two-sided scans, clean the scanner glass again focusing on the lower glass section.

- If "side two" of two-sided scans, clean the scanner glass again focusing on the upper glass section.

When investigating machines returned for this issue, we find that on the majority there is a substance on the scanner glass that has not been completely removed during troubleshooting. Most can be resolved with less than two minutes of cleaning. Scrubbing with a soft lint-free cloth may be necessary to completely remove the debris.

17. After performing the targeted cleaning of the upper or lower glass, perform a test scan again.

- If there are no lines, then the issue is resolved.

- If there are still lines on the scan, the machine will require service. Go to Warranty and Service.
